Meshuggah: Alive at Heavy Metal Film Festival

March 24th, 2011

The first ever Heavy Metal Film Festival, which runs from March 31st – April 3rd at the Downtown Independent Cinema, will feature Meshuggah: Alive Concert Film.

Meshuggah: Alive

From heavymetalff.com:

Shot by director/producer Ian McFarland of Killswitch Productions during MESHUGGAH’s 2009 North American tour and at their 2008 performance at the Loudpark Festival in Tokyo, Japan, ALIVE contains concert footage of selections from the band’s Billboard Top 200-charting 2008 release, obZen, in addition to their time-tested career staples. Gracefully interlacing the live tracks are behind-the-scenes vignettes shot in black & white that give ALIVE a concert film feel so unlike many of the live DVDs currently on the market. The result is a visceral, visual abduction into the band’s metric insanity-in-action.

PUSH did not get into the Sundance Film Festival, which received over 5,000+ film submissions but  the producers did receive good news from the Cinequest Film Festival in San Jose, California that their PUSH documentary was accepted to the Cinequest Film Festival. The film festival director Halfdan Hussey and programming director Michael Rabehl write “we were extremely excited to have been able to see the story revealed in the film and we know that it would be a perfect fit for the Cinequest 2011 program.

Cinequest is one of the last major film festivals still singularly dedicated to the discovery of new and emerging film artists. Taking place each year in the dynamic Bay Area city of San Jose, this impressive 13-day event featuring around 200 international films and attracting hundreds of film artists, technologists, and professionals from 44 countries. Since its inception, over 500,000 audience members and 10,000 artists have attended CQFF to date, and more than 4 million people have watched films distributed through Cinequest’s online or DVD channels. CQFF’s unique position in the festival firmament comes from being ahead of the curve in discovering original voices, showcasing new technology and setting the bar for film distribution and marketing within a festival context. In addition to the films that over the years have received distribution after premiering at CQFF, the organization also manages its own distribution label and has made deals with companies like Netflix, Blockbuster, and Walmart, ensuring that CQFF films reach audiences on multiple platforms. Similarly, selected CQFF titles are often offered distribution through Cinequest partners like Intel and Yahoo! In fact, around 60 narrative and documentary films from the 2009 CQFF are either in distribution or are currently working with sales companies in major film markets worldwide.
